Seventh-Ranked LSU Travels To Face Mississippi State In Early Kickoff
LSU, now ranked No. 7 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls, returns to action on Saturday when the Tigers travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State. Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 11:21 a.m. from Davis Wade Stadium. The game will be televised on the SEC Network. LSU brings a 3-0 overall record and a 1-0 SEC mark into the game. The Tigers are coming off a 31-3 non-conference win over Louisiana-Lafayette last week. LSU is 3-0 for the third straight season. LSU has won 12 straight games played in the month of September dating back to the 2006 season when the Tigers lost at Auburn, 7-3, on Sept. 16. Mississippi State is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play after its 15-3 win over Vanderbilt last week. LSU has won nine straight against Mississippi State, including last year's 34-24 victory in Tiger Stadium. During that 9-game winning streak against the Bulldogs, LSU has outscored Mississippi State, 374-105. LSU has also won four consecutive games in Starkville, including a 45-0 victory on a Thursday night to open the 2007 season. In its last four trips to Starkville, LSU has shutout the Bulldogs twice and limited Mississippi State to a total of 13 points. LSU goes into the State game having gone six straight quarters without allowing a touchdown. The last TD scored against LSU came in the second quarter against Vanderbilt. Since then, the Tiger defense has yielded only a field goal. Through three games, LSU is allowing 11.7 points and 320 yards (129.3 rushing, 190.7 passing) per game. Offensively, the Tigers are averaging 28.3 points per game and 325.7 total yards (163.7 rushing, 162.0 passing). QB Jordan Jefferson paces the Tiger offense as he's connected on 47-of-73 passes for 475 yards, 5 TDs and just one interception. Charles Scott has rushed for 164 yards, while Keiland Williams has 164 yards and a pair of TDs to his credit. LSU's top receivers are Brandon LaFell (14 rec., 129 yards, 3 TDs) and Terrance Toliver (13 rec., 206 yards, 2 TDs). Defensively, LB Harry Coleman leads the squad with 25 tackles. DE Rahim Alem leads the team with 3.5 tackles for losses and two sacks, while his brother Chad Jones is tops on the squad with a pair of interceptions. LSU PK Josh Jasper is a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals.

Top 10-ranked LSU Hosts UL-Lafayette In Non-Conference Contest
A pair of unbeaten teams will square off on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium when No. 7/9 LSU hosts Louisiana-Lafayette. Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. LSU is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in Southeastern Conference play following last week's 23-9 win over Vanderbilt. The win over the Commodores extended LSU's streak of consecutive Saturday night wins in Tiger Stadium to 31. UL-Lafayette brings a 2-0 mark into the game as the Cajuns are coming off a 17-15 win over Kansas State in Lafayette. Saturday's game will be the first between the teams since a 45-3 LSU victory to open the 2006 season. The teams also meet in 2002, a 48-0 LSU victory. Prior to that, the last meeting between the teams came in 1938. LSU is 21-0 all-time against UL-Lafayette. In addition to its 31 game winning streak in Saturday night games in Tiger Stadium, LSU's other winning streaks to note include: 22 straight victories over teams from Louisiana; 20 straight non-conference wins; and 11 consecutive wins in September. The 20 straight non-conference victories is the nation's longest current streak. LSU hasn't dropped a non-conference contest since falling to Iowa, 30-25, in the Capital One bowl during the 2004 season. Offensively, the Tigers are averaging 27.0 points and 323.5 yards per game (163.5 rushing, 160.0 passing). QB Jordan Jefferson has completed 31 of 48 passes for 310 yards and 3 TDs. Keiland Williams (123 yards, 2 TDs) and Charles Scott (101 yards) pace the rushing attack, while Brandon LaFell (11 rec., 72 yards, 1 TD) and Terrance Toliver (7 for 138, 2 TDs) lead the receiving corps. Defensively, LSU is allowing 16.0 points and 344.0 yards per game (139.5 rushing, 204.5 passing). LB Harry Coleman leads the team with 17 tackles. Other defensive standouts include: LB Perry Riley (12 tackles, 1 TFL), DE Rahim Alem (10 tackles, 2 sacks) and DT Drake Nevis (8 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack).

LSU Opens SEC Play Against Vanderbilt In Tiger Stadium

After a trip to the Pacific Northwest to open the 2009 season, the Tigers return home on Saturday, hosting Vanderbilt in the conference opener for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised nationally by ESPNU. LSU brings 1-0 record into the game following last week's 31-23 non-conference win over Washington in Seattle. Vanderbilt is also 1-0 after its 45-0 win over Western Carolina. This will be the first meeting between the Tigers and the Commodores since a 34-6 LSU win in Nashville in 2005. The teams last met in Tiger Stadium in 2004 with LSU winning 24-7. LSU is 20-7-1 all-time against the Commodores, while Les Miles is 2-0 against Vanderbilt. This will be the earliest LSU and Vanderbilt have ever met as of the 28 previous meetings between the teams, only twice have the games been played in September (1990 and 1991).
